How this test works

The test gives you the base form of a random verb and asks you to type the past simple and the past participle. Answers are checked instantly, with both British and American variants accepted where they exist.

Verbs you answer correctly appear less often, while the ones you miss come back until they stick — a simple form of spaced repetition that focuses your effort exactly where it is needed.

Tips for memorising irregular verbs

  • Study verbs in pattern groups (drink–drank–drunk, swim–swam–swum) instead of alphabetically.
  • Say each form out loud or play the audio — sound memory is stronger than visual memory alone.
  • Practise in short daily sessions of 10–15 verbs rather than one long cramming session.
  • Write your own example sentence for every verb you keep forgetting.
